Silicon Valley of India

"Silicon Valley of India Bangalore is the IT Hub of India that houses many international and national companies. The city has shown tremendous grouth from its past where it was merely known as the Garden City of India."

Bangalore in India is famous as the silicon valley world over and that's what actually creates interest in the mind of the tourists. Being a software engineer, I had to venture out to places that has something to new to give to my company and this time it was Bangalore. The City of Bangalore has positioned itself to help market the software industry. This is also why Bangalore has been playing host to international-class conferences, workshops and exhibitions devoted to the software cause.

Through my knowledge, the availability of a large pool of talented computer manpower, the presence of a large number of research institutions of excellence and industrial outfits specializing in electronics, have made the Indian Silicon Valley a powerful magnet for a large number of American, West European, Japanese and South Korean firms to set up their dedicated computer software centers in this science capital. As a matter of fact, this booming five centuries old city has been described as a “Software Mecca”.

As one day my Indian friend, Admit, and I was discussing about the various technological development, I came to know about the inception of Silicon Valley. He told me that the emergence of Bangalore as the Silicon Valley of India was not an overnight phenomenon. The seeds of the electronics revolution were laid in the mid-1950s with the setting up of the high profile large-scale public sector units like Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL), Indian Telephone Industries (ITI), Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL), National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL), Bharat Earth Movers Ltd., (BEM), and Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd., (BHEL). The presence of such an illustrious galaxy of industries based on electronics and associated high-tech areas paved the way for technological revolution in India especially in Bangalore.
